Tokyo Fashion Museum
Tokyo, Japan 2010

This competition entry conceived of the Tokyo Fashion Museum as an icon in the city, marking Omotesando Street (Tokyo’s main fashion promenade) in the vast urban landscape. The building is both a singular sculptural object with a distinct silhouette and a condenser of cultural activity.

The Museum program includes a shop, temporary and permanent exhibition galleries, a runway for fashion shows, a skybar/garden and two outdoor terraces. The program elements are distributed vertically, thus establishing the various urban “strata” in cross section and defining the multiple scales - close-up, mid-range and distant - of the urban experience.
